천년의 도자 역사를 자랑하는 이천은 풍부한 자원과 인적 인프라를 가져 예로부터 왕실 납품 도자기를 제작하던 공방이 즐비했던 곳이다. 오랜 역사와 전통을 바탕으로 수십 년째 한길만을 걸으며 고유의 도자문화 계승과 발전에 힘써온 명장, 그리고 전통기술에 현대적 감각을 가미한 수공예 도자기를 제작하는 공방 400곳이 어우러져 대한민국, 더 나아가 아시아의 대표 도자 도시로 평가받고 있다. 이중 매우 엄격한 심사를 거쳐 소수의 인원만 도자기 명장 칭호를 받는다.

The Korean Ceramic Masters at the heart of Korean ceramic production in Icheon have dedicated their lives to transmitting and cultivating a unique culture of Korean ceramics. These Masters proudly represent a long history and living tradition.
In the approximately 400 studios spread across the city, the ceramicists of Icheon hand craft ceramics, often imbuing them with creative and modern sensibilities, both contributing to and building on the techniques of our ancestors.
